Anchoring Peace Meditation
NOTE: the video below is a short lesson from my full-length meditation course, Become Unshakeable with Meditation.
Instructions (Recap)
The main goal of this technique is to create an association in your mind between feelings of relaxation and a mental image of a peaceful scene, so that eventually, after practicing the technique a few times, you can relax completely just by visualizing that peaceful scene for a few seconds.
The technique has five steps:
01. Sit with your back straight and close your eyes
02. Take several long, slow, and deep breaths through your nose to help you relax.
03. Next, do a progressive body relaxation (I guide through all this in the guided meditation, don’t worry!).
04. When your body is completely relaxed, visualize a peaceful scene. It can be whatever scene that makes you feel good and at peace. Personally, I imagine that I’m walking in nature.
05. After visualizing your peaceful scene for a couple of minutes, you can bring your attention back to the sensation of your breath and remain in meditation for as long as you wish, using your breath as your meditation object. Or, if you prefer, you could also focus on the point between the eyebrows (Ajna point) or the center of your chest (Heart chakra) instead of your breath. Choose the meditation object you feel most comfortable with.
When you’ll have practiced this method several times, your mind will become conditioned to associate the visualization of your peaceful scene with a relaxed state. You’ll just have to close your eyes and think of your peaceful scene to relax very quickly.
