The Most Powerful Goal-Setting Vision Board for Manifesting

Goal-Setting Vision Board

Hey, I'm Emilie!

A certified life coach, meditation instructor, and spiritual entrepreneur. I’m here to help you create a vibrant life around your higher purpose and heart’s desires.

Vision Boarding On Steroids

I recently came across a unique method for creating a goal-setting vision board.

If you’ve already created vision boards in the past, this simple trick will make your next board more powerful.

And if you’re new to vision boarding, don’t worry; I’ll explain what it is and the science behind it in this article.

Most of you will have heard of vision boards. They are a popular tool among adepts of the law of attraction and entrepreneurs alike.

If you’re new to the idea, a vision board is a collage of images and words of things you want to have, experience, and accomplish.

It’s a tool that helps you stay focused on your goals and believe you can achieve them.

By believing it’s possible to achieve your goals and dreams, you have a better chance to make them come true (and faster).

Simply put, it helps to remove the resistance caused by doubt and fear that could otherwise slow your progress and even prevent you from getting what you want.

In this article, I’ll first explain what this unique vision board method is all about.

Next, I’ll explain how you can use it to program your subconscious mind to help you get what you want. I don’t know about you, but when I know the science behind a tool, I feel more motivated to use it!  In fact, I used to think vision boards were a bit cheesy until I understood the science behind them.

Lastly, I’ll give you a few tips to make your vision board more actionable.

And enjoy a little “vacation” from the turmoil in your mind.

Unique and Powerful Vision Board Method

The unique vision board method I want to share with you comes from a TikToker.

At least the original form (I altered it a little).

The idea he shared initially was to create a gratitude board; instead of creating a vision board with images of your vision for the future, he suggested making a board of the things you are grateful for right now.

Then, I thought, “What about doing both? Put images of things you are grateful for on one side of the board and images of the things you want on the other side.”

That would be very powerful! And here’s why.

The Science Behind How Vision Boards Work

First, it’s more effective to implant ideas into your subconscious mind – the part of your mind that runs 90% of your life – using images and emotions than words.

Words are too easy to analyze and rationalize, and they rarely create imprints in the subconscious unless an emotion accompanies them.

That being said, let’s say you place photos of things you are grateful for on your board’s left side and images of items you want on the right side.

Suppose you looked at your board’s left side (images of things you are grateful for).

In that case, you’d probably get into a state of gratitude quite easily – more easily than if you tried to trigger feelings of appreciation for no apparent reason.

Then, suppose you looked at your board’s right side (the things you want), still holding on to the feelings of gratitude.

Doing so would create an association in your mind between what you want and the feelings of gratitude.

This association will trick your subconscious mind into believing that you already own or have experienced or accomplished these things.

“We normally give thanks when we get something. The emotional signature of gratitude means it’s already happened.” -Dr. Joe Dispenza in Becoming Supernatural

Then, your reticular activating system will have no other choice than look for and show you evidence that this is true, that you already have these things.

The Reticular What?

The reticular activating system is (RAS) is a network of neurons located in the brain.

Its function is to filter the information that comes to our senses from the environment by selecting what data we pay attention to and what data remains unnoticed.

Here’s the thing: out of the infinity of bytes of information that comes to our senses from the environment, the conscious mind is only capable of processing a tiny amount of data per second.

It means that we are consciously aware of only a small percentage of all the data from the environment.

The question is: What determines what information from the environment we consciously notice and what goes unnoticed.

The answer: The reticular activating or RAS.

The RAS’s role is to ensure the brain doesn’t have to deal with more information than it can handle. Without the RAS, you would be overloaded with information (your computer would overheat).

Now, perhaps you wonder, “How does the RAS filter the information?”

Well, first, it notices everything that concerns your survival and safety.

Second, it notices information that matches our current beliefs (or programs in the subconscious mind).

You RAS does everything to show you evidence of what you believe is true, whether it is really true or not.

For example, if you think that you aren’t skilled enough to obtain a promotion, your RAS will spend all day pointing out every single piece of evidence that confirms that belief.

That means that out of the millions of bytes of information coming from the environment, you’ll notice only the few bytes that match the belief that you aren’t skilled enough. In contrast, the millions of bytes of information that might confirm the opposite—and could help you get a promotion—will remain unnoticed.

This phenomenon is called confirmation bias. It’s the tendency to search for and interpret information in a way that confirms our pre-existing beliefs.

Through this process, we reinforce our beliefs.

Your RAS also notices what matches the information you consistently hold on your mind.

For example, let’s pretend you recently buy a red car. It’s likely that in the weeks following your purchase, you see red cars everywhere.

That’s because of your reticular activating system.

Let’s go back to our vision board.

By continually looking at images that represent what you want, you’ll program your RAS to notice similar information in your environment, meaning that you’ll more easily see opportunities that will help you achieve your goals.

Plus, because of the emotion of gratitude, you’ll trick your brain into believing that you already have what’s on your vision board, and your RAS (through the confirmation bias) will work even harder to show you evidence that this is true.

Does it make sense?

How to Make a Goal-Gratitude Vision Board

Creating your vision board should be fun and easy.

Some people like to cut-out images from magazines and stick them on an actual board. Personally, I use Canva to create a digital vision board. I have it printed out at my local copy store for $4.

Whichever of these methods you choose will work just fine, but here are a few tips to help you make a truly effective vision board.

First, make a list of everything you are grateful for in your life.

Then, pick the few things that are the most important to you – the things that, when you think about them, you quickly feel appreciation. Those are the images you want more prominently on your board.

Next, make a list of things you want.

Place the items on your list in order of importance. And, again, make the images representing those things prominent on your board.

Place the images of things you are grateful for on the left and the pictures of items you want on the right (unless you’re used to reading from right to left; in that case, do the opposite).

After you’ve done that, add some action phrases or images to your board describing what you have to do to make your vision come true.

For example, I want to become fully vegan.

So far, I’ve had a hard time letting go of cheese.

So, I put an image of vegan cheeses on the right side of my board. I also put the phrase “90-day vegan challenge,” which I plan on doing to help me transition into an entirely plant-based diet.

I also added the image of a vegan cheese cookbook because learning how to make vegan cheese will likely help me on my journey.

You don’t have to describe every single step of the process – you can’t know every single step on the process anyway – but maybe just one or two steps for each main thing you want just to make your vision more tangible.

Look at It Often

Once you’ve created your board, look at it often. Look at it every morning and every evening going to bed.

First, look at the images on the left side of your board (the things you are grateful for), allow feelings of appreciation to arise, and then look at the right side (at the items you want) while sustaining the feelings of gratitude.

I think they would complement this article very well.
