So, what does spiritual awakening look like?

This article tackles an important topic: how to speed up our evolution as human beings and build a more conscious world by leading by example. Or, put another way, how can we awaken?

I just finished reading Neale Donald Walsh’s book, Conversation with God, Book 4: Awaken the Species. This was the second time I’ve read it since it was published four years ago. It’s an excellent book (and easy read) that describes the way of living of highly evolved beings.

It invites us to adopt the behaviors of highly evolved beings to the best of our abilities so that we can awaken and help to awaken others by setting the example. The author says that our survival as a species depends on it, which is not very difficult to believe when looking at the current state of affairs.

In this article, I’d like to share the sixteen differences between unawakened humans and highly evolved beings mentioned in the book.

Then, I’ll list seven behaviors we must embrace (according to the author) if we want to awaken and evolve as a species.

I found this information very insightful, and I hope it’ll help you too.

16 Differences Between Highly Evolved Beings and Humans in an Unawakened State

 

#1 Highly evolved beings see the unity in all life. 

Humans in an unawakened state believe that everything is separate from everything.

That’s the core difference between most humans and highly evolved beings, and from it stems all the other differences in our way of living and being.

Because it’s the most important difference, I’ll share two tools we can use to begin shifting from a belief in separation to one in unity.

The first idea comes from the author, Neale Donald Walsh: Every day for thirty days, go for a 15-minute walk and mentally say while looking at whatever crosses your sight, “I am that.” Whether you see a dog, kids playing on the street, a tree, a bicycle, or whatever else, mentally say, “I am that.” The goal is to develop the understanding that you and the object or other person you see are one.

The second tool is meditation. Meditation is perhaps the fastest and surest way we can step into “unity consciousness.” If you’re new to meditation, I have a free 10-minute class about the easiest and most popular meditation technique.

#2 They tell the truth, always.

We often lie to ourselves and to others.

#3 They say one thing and will do what they say.

We often fail to walk our talk.

#4 They always do what works.

We (unawakened humans) often choose behaviors that don’t create harmony.

#5 They do not embrace the concept of “justice” and “punishment.”

Unawakened humans tend to believe that one must get punished for doing certain things.

#6 They do not embrace the concept of “insufficiency.”

Unawakened humans tend to believe that resources are scarce and there’s not enough for everyone.

#7 They do not embrace the concept of “ownership.”

Unawakened humans like to own possessions.

#8 They share everything with everyone all the time.

We do not always share everything with all humans.

#9 They create a balance between machines and nature.

We often prioritize technology over nature.

#10 They would never terminate the current physical expression of another sentient being unless asked directly by that other being to do so.

Humans do kill other humans as well as other sentient beings.

#11 They would never do anything that could potentially damage or harm their physical environment.

We have greatly damaged our environment to the point that it’s now polluted and at high risk of soon becoming unhospitable.

#12 They never poison themselves.

We consume food, drinks, and other substances that are not beneficial to our physical bodies.

#13 They never compete.

We do compete for resources, jobs, status, romantic partners, and so on.

#14 They are clear that they need nothing.

We believe that we need many things to be happy.

#15 They experience and express unconditional love for everyone.

We do not experience unconditional love: love for everyone, all the time.

#16 They have harnessed the power of metaphysics.

Most of us know very little about metaphysics, and even fewer utilize it.

I recommend reading the book to explore these differences in more detail, but for now, let’s see some practical shifts we can make to accelerate our evolution and eventually become highly evolved too. The book mentions several of those shifts.

By applying them, we will not only accelerate our awakening, but we’ll also help others awaken by setting the example.

7 Behaviors to Adopt to Awaken

Here are a few examples of behaviors we must embrace to awaken that are mentioned in the book:

#1 Don’t Entertain Negative Thoughts

When you notice that you’re having negative thoughts, stop and force yourself to think of something else. Of course, doing this requires a great deal of self-awareness.

#2 Love Yourself, Others, and Life Fully

Love and accept yourself, others, and life in general. Do this fully and without feeling the need to change what is.

#3 Forgive

Forgive, or, better said, understand that what another person might have done that was hurtful came from ignorance. Replace forgiveness with understanding and compassion. A good book on the topic of true forgiveness that might help understand this concept is True Forgiveness by Jennifer McSween.

#4 Be Aware That Everything is Energy in Vibration

Pay attention to the vibration of the food you eat and what you watch, listen to, say, and do. I like to think of it this way: what creates harmony has a high vibration, what creates disharmony has a low vibration.

#5 Express Gratitude

The third idea is to be grateful.

“(Gratitude) is the most powerful tool you could be given (…) When one actively chooses to be grateful for everything presenting itself in one’s life (and I do mean everything), it sets up an energetic signature that washes over and impacts the energy of whatever is now arising.” -Awaken the Species.

Gratitude is a key element mentioned in all law of attraction books, preached by all successful entrepreneurs, and mentioned in all spiritual texts.

In her channeled book 12 Lessons from the Archangels, Belinda Womack wrote:

“The magical energy of gratitude will catapult you out of nearly every stagnant situation you find yourself trapped in. It is the secret to speeding up your evolution and the key to ascension.”

We’ve all heard or read somewhere that gratitude is the key to success and happiness. But do you have a gratitude practice?

To be honest, I don’t. I sometimes do for a few weeks, but that’s until I forget about it. Now, I feel a bit more motivated to try it again.

#6 Choose a State of Being

The fourth idea is to decide what we will think, say, or do in advance. It’s about being intentional regarding how we want to show up in each moment.

“Intention is everything. It sets the energetic signature for events that follow.” –Awaken the Species.

This idea of “choosing a state of being” is very similar to Abraham Hick’s concept of “segment intending.” Segment intending is about setting an intention of how you want to show up – to be and feel – before beginning a task or activity or before interacting with someone.

For example, before calling your mom or a friend, you would decide how you want to show up for the conversation. Perhaps you want to listen attentively, be kind, and demonstrate compassion. Before washing the dishes, you could decide to do it mindfully and with care. Before getting in your car, you could set the intention to keep your cool if you get stuck in traffic or if another driver cuts you on the road.

#7 Go with the Soul

The fifth idea is to “go with the soul.”

Whatever happens in your life, you can respond based on conditioning (and often fear) or from the “wisdom center of your soul,” as stated in the book. When you go with the soul, you are in alignment with your highest purpose.

To help you respond from a place of wisdom rather than a place of ego and conditioning, you can ask yourself before making a decision (or saying or doing something), “What would my soul – or the wisest version of me – say or do?”

Signs of spiritual awakening

We just have to decide to be that way more often. 

To be honest, I felt a bit discouraged — or rather, overwhelmed — after reading all these recommendations. I thought I would never be able to do these perfectly.

But the author also stated that we all have behaved in these ways at one time or another; thus, none of those behaviors are outside our capabilities.

We just have to decide to be that way more often. 

Again, I highly recommend reading the book if you are serious about your spiritual journey and if you want to contribute to building a better, more conscious world. It’s a very easy yet enlightening read. Plus, the information is practical and can be applied to your everyday life.
